American Headache and Migraine Association Blog Challenge Day #2 - Who Helps You Hope?

It can be really hard to hold onto hope living with a chronic illness and in constant pain. The one person in my life that has helped me hold on the most to hope would be my husband. He never loses his hope that one day I will not be in pain. He never loses hope that the next pill I try will be the one that will work. He never stops hoping that the next doctor I see will have the answers.

After over 15 years of constant pain I have many times when I lose my hope. When I break down a feel like I will never find relief and am just meant to live a life filled with pain. That is when my husband will fill me with his hope and let me know that we will never stop trying to find an answer. We will never stop fighting to stop the pain and we will continue to hope for a future were we can enjoy life without migraines and headaches.

American Headache and Migraine Association Blogging Challenge Day #1

Oh how true this quote is for migraine sufferers. For one, we are all miserable and for most of us it is on a daily basis. Not only from the constant pain but the other symptoms that come from this chronic illness. Light sensitivity, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, and aura are just a few of the miserable things that a person’s body has to endure during a migraine attach.
This quote is also true in that migraine sufferers have limited medications and medical options. There are very limited medications that have actually been developed for migraines, most of the preventatives that are being used on migraine patients were developed for other medical conditions. Topamax is a seizure medication, Botox is a cosmetic medication and yet they are used for the treatment of migraines. So yes, “the miserable have no other medicine but only hope.” Migraine sufferers have to hope for better medicines and for better research.
Sadly, having migraines and chronic daily headaches for over 15 years does not make me unique. And trying countless medications or treatments does not either. That is why I know I must do what I can to have hope that one day the pain will be gone. To give hope to others that one day their pain may be gone. We have to hope daily for less pain and misery. We have to fight and be strong and share our hope with one another because our only medicine is hope.
